One of the world's leading paint and coating suppliers, Jotun, has co-operated with Seagull Maritime AS, to develop an informative set of e-learning modules on the theme of onboard paint maintenance, with emphasis on in-service treatments.
Marlink and Seagull Maritime have entered into a partnership to introduce a step-change in onboard training this year, creating an online, satcom enabled environment for the distribution and updating of e-learning material. The partnership combines Marlink and Seagull’s respective domain expertise to streamline and automate e-learning content distribution and management. Additional functionality will be offered later this year to enable fully digitalised services with the Seagull software running on Marlink’s XChange centralised IT and communications management platform, providing full on-board hosting, and monitoring of Seagulls market leading software to improve crews’ knowledge and qualification.
Onboard Danish flagged vessels members of the safety group are required to undergo training concerning the working environment approved by the Danish Maritime Authority. This is also called “Section 16 course”. Immediately after the election of a safety representative and appointment of a supervisor, the ship owner shall enrol them for the Section 16 course. The objective of this course is to give seafarer’s necessary training and knowledge required to carry out their duties as a member of the safety organization in cooperation with others to promote a safe and healthy working environment on board ships.
Frontline, known as one of the world’s largest owners of crude oil tankers, are an active user of Seagull Maritime’s onboard training system. Frontline oversee Ship Management of almost 180 vessels within most vessel types and have used Seagull as their preferred supplier for training management systems for many years. Frontline acknowledge the value of competent crew and motivate their external ship owners to install Seagull onboard their vessels.
The Paris MoU and Tokyo MoU have announced a joint Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) focusing on the Safety of Navigation including ECDIS. The CIC aims at checking the compliance with Safety of Navigation, including Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS). This inspection campaign will be held for three months, commencing from 1 September 2017 and ending 30 November 2017.
Carrying out an inspection in the scavenge space of a large two stroke main engine is an extremely useful way of diagnosing engine condition, assessing the need to adjust cylinder lubrication and for planning maintenance. Periodic inspections will reduce maintenance and running costs and avoid large overhaul costs, since problems are found at an early stage.
