Building Resilient Seafarers

Building Resilient Seafarers

Problems arise every day on board ships. Seafarers must overcome challenges and recover from setbacks in order to perform their daily duties to the best of their ability. Whether these setbacks are trivial or potentially life threatening, a person’s level of resilience can be the difference between a swift recovery and a catastrophic accident.

When seafarers lack resilience, they struggle to bounce back effectively from setbacks. In the worst cases, they lose control and fail to ensure the continued safe operation of the vessel, potentially putting the crew, the vessel and the cargo in danger.

In response to a growing demand for effective resilience training, Seagull Maritime has developed a series of modules designed to increase a crewmember’s level of resilience. Available in e-learning and learning film formats, the four module series focuses on some of the key components of resilient behaviour, ranging from confidence and adaptability to social support and purpose.

Providing a unique and innovative way of highlighting the effects of adequate and inadequate resilience, this highly engaging series identifies ways to improve resilience so that individuals can respond positively and successfully when things don’t go to plan.
