Seagull receives DNV’s endorsement of courses in Ship Security and MLC 2006
Det Norske Veritas (DNV) has issued its Training Course Certificate for Seagull’s Ship Security Officer (SSO) and Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 training packages.
These courses have been reviewed by DNV and upon completion of the review DNV was satisfied that the courses were in compliance with the DNV Standard for Certification of Learning Programmes and other standards which for the Ship Security Officer (SSO) course include STCW – 95 Reg. V1/5 and V1/6 as amended and the IMO Model Course 1.30. The industry popular Seagull MLC 2006 course includes adherence to the Maritime Labour Convention 2006.
The trend now is that seafarers and ship owners prefer to implement so-called ‘at work’ onboard courses which the seafarers can take while they are onboard. “The benefits of our onboard training concepts are that the seafarers becomes more familiar with risk factors by applying theories and practice direct in the workplace" says course coordinator Anders Brunvoll. He also says that since the onboard training started in 2001 Seagull has issued approximately 33,000 certificates, all implemented as e-courses. E-courses that are available offline as well as online which are a huge advantage in situations like for the MLC 2006 course package where shore based target groups is included.
Last year Seagull issued about 5000 certificates in total and of these approximately 4700 were onboard courses.
The trend is here. “Both the crew and the ship owners prefer the crewmembers to conduct the course onboard during work time”, Anders says.
Seagull is also certified by the Norwegian Veritas as a maritime training center.
