Unicom Management Services successful use of Seagull Training System

During this time the fleet of 60+ vessels has completed a record high 12168 training sessions. One training session is one person completing a Computer Based Training program with satisfactorily score. These figures mean the average completed training session for each vessel is close to 200, which is very impressive for the first year of operation
“The crews have received the training system with enthusiasm and found it very user friendly and were keen to improve their knowledge through the use of this training system” according to Captain Nikolay Sivkov (Company Training Manger).

Unicom management was established in 1991 in Cyprus and includes mostly tanker ships (chemicals, gas, crude and products), multi-purpose cargo ships, timber carriers, container ships, bulk carriers, RO-RO and the passenger vessel "Maxim Gorkiy" which operates on a worldwide cruise itinerary. Unicom employs over 4 000 Russian and Ukraine seafarers for its managed fleet. The current fleet counts 72 vessels and 4 new builds are scheduled for 2008

The Seagull Training System consists of a dedicated training computer, in which all training and administration programs are pre-installed and configured by Seagull. Part of the Seagull Service is the follow up of the training activities carried out onboard the vessels. These reports are then sent by data file via regular e-mail to the Seagull Support Centre on a monthly basis. The Support Centre correlates the data received and forwards them to Unicom in an itemized monthly report. This report documents the number of training sessions carried out by each Ship - Crew Member and the Training Modules that have been used.
Included in the Seagull Training System is also training material to complete onboard courses for Safety Officer, Ship Security Officer and ECDIS. This is an extremely cost effective training concept, where theoretical knowledge is covered by CBT programs combined with structured and practical on-the-job training.
